Healthy Teeth Need Dental Floss

The Benefits Of Flossing

Dentists recommend using dental floss at lease once a day in order to remove food particles left behind after brushingflossing. Flossing removes food that creates plaque, and that slowly decays your teeth. One reason plaque should be removed from the mouth is that it can lead to tooth decay and gum disease, causing pain and slight irritation. Studies also show that people who have flossed are less likely to have a stroke or heart attack.

When you do not floss your teeth regularly, food and bacteria are likely to hide between the spaces of your teeth and cause irritation and problems that can become costly. It is a good habit to floss once a day, either after a meal or before you go to sleep at night. That way the food and bacteria will not stay in your mouth for several hours while you are sleeping. Talk to your dentist about which brand of floss would work best for you and would be most efficient.

The Process

In order to floss your teeth, take a long piece of and gently insert it between the teeth to clean away plaque and left over pieces of food. Make sure to get all the sides of each tooth, even if it is not resting next to another one. To get better results, dispose of each piece after using it and start with a clean one each time.

Did You Know…

Many people don’t know that the floss containers actually hold ten to one hundred meters of floss, which can last well over a couple of months. Depending on the brand you choose, it really is not that costly.
