It Doesn’t Just Look Bad, It’s Dangerous

May 26, 2011

So, your teen got their tongue pierced.  Congratulations, you must be so proud!

Want some tips on how to get them to take it out?  Here are some points of interest that may help you in your quest.

1) The tongue is a sensitive thing.  It not only helps you to taste your food, it also enables you to speak clearly.  Nerve damage due to an improper piercing can leave you lisping and tasteless for the rest of your life (good times!)

2) Long-term rubbing of the tongue post against delicate oral tissues can cause precancerous lesions. Yeah, that’s something to look forward to.

3) Biting on the tongue post can also break your teeth.  This usually results in a severe toothache and the added experience and expense of a root canal and crown. (This is an expense that THEY should incur)

So many things to look forward to with their new piercing; and we didn’t even mention the fun of infection!   Be sure to let your teen know that all of this is quite disgusting, expensive and painful, but hey, they probably look cool.  Good job!!
