So, what really causes bad breath? It could be one of many factors, or a combination of these same factors.
From a dental perspective, bad breath could be caused by poor oral hygiene. Bad odors can occur from food debris, plaque and tartar that are not cleaned away by proper brushing, flossing and regular visits to see the hygienist.
Also, for many individuals, it means cleaning the tongue. Our tongues have a velvet-like surface that attracts bacteria on a daily basis. Untreated gum disease or untreated cavities are big contributing factors in the search for tracking down the sources of bad breath.
If, after looking at all these factors the issue is not resolved, we consider physical concerns like gastric reflux or gastric distress, sinus infections or dry mouth syndrome. A dry mouth can be caused by certain medications, anxiety or dehydration issues.
So, if you are interested in becoming more kissable…..think about these factors that could be causing bad breath. We all want our breath to be fresh and not offensive to those we come in contact with on a daily basis.
I look forward to seeing you soon. If you have any questions, please bring them up at your next visit.
