Yes It’s Nice, but Hand It Over!

September 29, 2010

I know you love your provisional crown/bridge, but while it is a marvel of function and aesthetics, it is not meant to be a final restoration.

I pride myself on making provisionals that have good flossing contacts, fit well, feel good and look great. I am pleased when patients say they love their temporaries, but that can’t compare to how much you are going to love your final crown/bridge.

– A porcelain crown/bridge is made with a metal core. This insures strength and much improved functionality over what a provisional crown/bridge can provide.

– The porcelain provides a superior aesthetic result over acrylic. It is smoother feeling to your tongue and will not stain over time.

– A final crown/bridge is seated with permanent cement. No more avoiding sticky or chewy food.

– A final crown/bridge seals tightly at the margins to prevent the leakage that would otherwise be possible with an acrylic crown/bridge.

All of these things are designed to provide a restoration that will last you for years to come. Your provisional is made to last you for several weeks until your new crown/bridge are fabricated at the lab.

Don’t think of the appointment as saying goodbye to an old friend. Think of it as saying hello to a new one that will be with you for the long haul.
