Why Cosmetic Dental Bonding?

Cosmetic Dental Bonding At Richardson General and Cosmetic Dentistry Saves Money

We know that keeping your smile looking great is important to you. When discoloration, minor chips or spacing occur, you should not have to deal with a difficult and expensive dental procedure. Here at Richardson General and Cosmetic Dentistry, we provide cosmetic bonding to help solve these small issues that will crop up from time to time without the cost of major procedures.

How Does Cosmetic Dental Bonding Work?

Dental bonding is a rather simple procedure. First, we will clean the area where she will apply the bonding resin. Then she will choose a resin that matches your tooth color. Afterward she will attach and mold the resin to the shape of the tooth. The resin is applied layer by layer until the area has the desired look. We will then harden the resin using ultraviolet light. Once the resin has hardened the last step is to make sure that the tooth looks correct. The final step is to polish the tooth.

What Is Enamel Shaping?

Enamel shaping is a process by which we use a sanding disc to carefully remove small amounts of tooth enamel, then polishes the area. This process only requires a single visit and is sometimes necessary alongside dental bonding procedures. Enamel shaping can be done to hide imperfections or to change a tooth’s appearance or shape.

When Is Enamel Shaping Done?

There are a few different circumstances that make enamel shaping a great option, such as:

  • Removing overlapping areas
  • Smoothing out rough spots
  • Eliminating minor chipping
  • Contouring pointy edges
  • Correcting minor discrepancies in size

Resin can stain and is most likely to within the first few hours after treatment. This is why it’s important that you avoid drinking liquids like coffee, tea or red wine. You should also not smoke during this time.
